Dealing with the Mazal of Tammuz & Av

15/6/2018

Note: English dates are for the year 2018 only.

We've recently entered the month of Tammuz (June 13-July 12), which is followed by the month of Av (July 13-August 10).

Historically, these months contain a lot of tragedy and difficulties.

This is due to the mazal, the astrological influence, of these months.

If you find it harder to work on certain character traits or you find certain flaws getting the best of you, the mazal (Crab/Cancer and Lion/Leo) is the reason.

You also may notice other people acting "off." The mazal is why.

When we know that others are struggling against unseen forces, it helps us to give them the benefit of the doubt and judge them more favorably.

It helps us to judge ourselves more favorably too.

The good thing about the struggle against the mazal of Tammuz and Av is that it gets us into shape for Elul (August 11-September 9), whose mazal is so much more conducive for love and bonding with Hashem, and teshuvah, which in turns prepares us for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

It's all about flexing that teshuvah muscle.

Here are some past posts on the topic:
The Kli Yakar - Parshat Devarim
How to Fight the Crabby Mazal of Tammuz
How to Deal with the Mazal of Crabby Tammuz and Savage Av

May we all succeed in rising above all negative influences.

thank you for all your posts...but, what about the Noahide? is this also true for us as well? it surely seems some turn has come in the Journey... a bit more difficult. *:-)

Hi, Angela!

To answer your question: As far as I know, astrological influences affect everyone, but you can pray and "emuna" your way out from under them.

The truth is that the Romans, for example, who did bad things to the Jewish people in Tammuz, were going backwards according to the Noachide laws, as per the astrological influence of the Crab. And the burning of the Beit Hamikdash in Av was definitely a ferocious attack by the Babylonians and later the Romans, which resembles the attack of a devouring lion, which represents the astrological influence of Av.

I'm sorry to hear you've encountered a difficult turn in the journey. Even though it's perfectly natural, it's always frustrating and disheartening when that happens (speaking for myself, anyway). I really hope you experience some uplift soon.

President Trump just had a birthday – June 14, 1946 – in Tammuz
And my birthday is in August (Leo)

Went to one of the links above! Well, I’m no ‘savage’. :-)) In fact I was born in the hot summer and love the summer months. Each year when Shavuos is past us, I look very much toward the summer. I so do not look forward to the Tammuz/Av of old hanging over us each year. So I am a mix of apprehension (like a bird that cannot fly) and longing (for the blossoming warmth), but hang on until Menachem Av when my heart can once again sing.

You are definitely no savage, Neshama!

On the positive side, Rebbe Nachman uses the image of a lion to represent the great power of personal holiness, which he derives from Yeshayahu 31.

A lioness is also known as a great protectoress and nurturer of her cubs.

And we know that the Mizbe'ach is known as "Ariel" -- "Lion of God" (Yeshayahu 29).

So that's the good news for all you Leos out there!

Thanks for your encouraging comment, Neshama.

I must tell you this. We placed a basket behind an AC unit on our porch, for the Doves to hatch their eggs. B”H we were so happy to see a Dove “sitting” [on the eggs]. However, today I noticed no Dove “sitting”. I was heartbroken at the thought. When we peered into the basket the eggs were gone. Good Grief! A “vulture bird” must have taken the eggs to eat or feed her tiny vultures. This is the second time this bird came to devour Dove eggs. So sad. I think that bird canvases the area for nests, thats why I call it a “vulture bird."

That's sad about the nesting and the eggs, and that it happened a couple of times already. I wonder what breed of bird would prey on doves like that.

Nonetheless, it's still very compassionate of you guys to create a nice place for doves to hatch their eggs.
