I just read on Neshama's blog (ALERT: Pidyon Shvuiim) about the travesty that just happened to the young Amar family. (Thanks for publicizing this, Neshama.)
While visiting kivrei tzaddikim in the Ukraine, this couple, their baby, and the young wife's mother got into a terrible car accident through no fault of their own.
Instead of taking the young husband to a hospital to be treated for his injuries, Ukrainian police took him to jail instead and put him in a cell with 2 Muslims.
The prison is demanding $200,000 for his release. Time is of the essence as the prison has apparently put a 9-day limit in place.
There is no need to explain that every dollar (or shekel!) counts, no matter how small the amount.
